An advisory on heavy rains above 100 mm was issued for the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department said.
While issuing an advisory weather forecast, the department said that due to active southwest monsoon conditions over the island, there is a possibility of the showery conditions continuing in the South-Western part of the island.
Accordingly, a high-risk level (Red) warning was issued for seven districts, including Gampaha, Kegalle, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara.
Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
