The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) today said that more buses will be assigned for passengers to go back to their villages for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays starting today.
SLTB deputy general manager Panduka Swarnahansa said the schedule of the arrangements for the bus services had been made since April 8.
"It was reported that more people have been arriving at the Colombo Central Bus Stand yesterday. So, we have assigned additional buses to provide transport facilities for them," he said.
"We expect more people to use the central bus stand for their travels this afternoon and evening. Therefore, the SLTB has decided to assign more than 250 additional buses for long-distance services," Swarnahansa said.
Certain buses have been recalled from remote depots to be assigned for the long-distance services, he added.
Swarnahansa said that a number (011 232 80 81) has been announced for people to get information about buses. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
