Activists demand action as ’AKD Go Home’ slogan returns

Colombo, July 02 (Daily Mirror) - Activists associated with the Citizens' Struggle Movement staged a protest in Borella on Thursday, demanding urgent government action to address the rising cost of living, with demonstrators chanting the slogan "AKD Go Home" during the protest.

Crowds gathered in the area, calling for immediate measures to reduce the prices of essential goods, including rice, vegetables and other daily necessities.

Protesters accused the government of failing to deliver the economic relief promised to the public.

Addressing the gathering, one of the organisers said the current administration had come to power on the strength of a people's movement seeking systemic change, but alleged that it had failed to meet the expectations of those who supported it. He claimed that while ordinary citizens continue to struggle with mounting economic challenges, the government has not responded adequately to their concerns.

Protesters argued that the administration, which holds both the Executive Presidency and a commanding parliamentary majority, has the responsibility to resolve the country's economic difficulties. They questioned the government's ability to govern if it cannot address the rising cost of essential commodities.
