COLOMBO (Daily Mirror) - The Airport and Aviation Services (Private) Limited has earned Rs. 28.5 billion in revenue during the past nine months (from January 1 to September 30) and said that it was an increase of 57% when compared to the same period in 2022.
AASL Chairman Major General (Rtd.) G.A. Chandrasiri said Rs. 15.9 billion was earned as operational profit during these months.
This remarkable achievement by the AASL has been due to the diligent leadership of the company and the great commitment of all employees of AASL. This has shown the company’s commitment towards operating the organization profitably while setting an example to other state-owned enterprises in Sri Lanka, he added.
"The diligent and strategic leadership of the Chairman and the board of management in the timely planning and decision-making process while adopting strategic financial control and expenditure management immensely contributed to the financial success of AASL,” the chairman said.
"We paid Rs. 5 billion in the form of dividends to the government of Sri Lanka in 2023. We have shown our resilience as a very strong state-owned enterprise and fulfilled the national responsibility by operating Sri Lanka's airports effectively while focusing on the future development of the airports to meet the challenges and needs of the aviation industry.
In 2023, up to September 30, the AASL staged a remarkable recovery, with 33,950 flight movements up to the month of September, reaffirming its pivotal role in the aviation industry. Sri Lanka airports welcomed 5,523,893 passengers, nearly returning to pre-pandemic levels, a testament to the confidence travellers have in the company's services. Handling a remarkable 117,117 metric tons of cargo, the company facilitated trade and connected Sri Lanka to the global marketplace.
Furthermore, 1,442,411 visitors graced the airports, showcasing Sri Lanka's allure as a sought-after destination. These impressive figures, up to the month of September 2023, highlight the company's resilience, excellence, and its significant contribution to the aviation sector, Chairman Chandrasiri said.
