Colombo, April 12 (Daily Mirror) - A special State amnesty has been granted to prisoners in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year tomorrow (13), Prisons Commissioner and media spokesman Gamini B. Dissanayaka said.
He said the prisoners would be released in view of the Sinhala and Year New Year by the President in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Article 34 of the Constitution.
Accordingly, a total of 917 prisoners, including 896 male prisoners and 21 female prisoners will be released from all prisons around the country tomorrow at 10 a.m.
