Colombo, July 5 (Daily Mirror) - At least 75 people have lost their lives in drowning incidents during the first months of this year.
According to Police, the majority of the fatal incidents occurred when individuals entered unmonitored or hazardous locations to bathe or swim.
Police statistics also show that drowning remains a significant public safety concern, with 450 drowning-related deaths recorded across the country in 2025.
In view of the continuing fatalities, the Police has urged the public and tourists to avoid entering water at locations identified as unsafe and to exercise extreme caution when visiting rivers, reservoirs, beaches and other water bodies.
