Colombo, March 10 (Daily Mirror) - The government has initiated the reorganisation of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) under a national programme aimed at maintaining the country’s public transport service in a more efficient and systematic manner.
As part of this programme, formal steps have been taken to address the long-standing human resource shortages within the SLTB through new recruitments.
Accordingly, appointment letters were presented to 541 newly recruited drivers and conductors today (10) at the Public Auditorium of Temple Trees.
The event was held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with the participation of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake.
The newly recruited employees are expected to strengthen the operational capacity of the SLTB and improve the efficiency of public transport services across the island.
According to officials, the new appointees will be attached to transport services provided by 107 SLTB depots located across the country. The SLTB administration further stated that steps will be taken to integrate the recruits into permanent service in the future based on their service efficiency and performance.
