47 France-bound illegal migrants arrested

Forty-seven people suspected to be on an illegal voyage to France have been arrested by the Navy and Wennappuwa Police during a special operation last night.

The combined operation was mounted by the Western Naval Command and Wennappuwa Police, based on tip-off received by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The group of individuals was nabbed after carrying out a search on three vans in Wennappuwa.

Among the apprehended, were 37 men and 6 women over 18 years of age and 4 teenagers.

They were identified as residents of Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Kalmunai, Batticaloa, Puttalam, Chilaw, Marawila, Mahawewa, Mundalama and Wellawatta. They were handed over to Wennappuwa Police for onward investigation.(DSB)

Pathetic. Can't live here because the politicians have messed the country. Can't leave because you don't have the required qualifications. Apparently, dying in fuel ques and seeing your kids being deprived of essential nutrition and a decent education is ok, but trying to migrate and find a way out is definitely not ok!
