Colombo, July 6 (Daily Mirror) - The Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry has officially released the public and bank holiday schedule for the year 2027 through an Extraordinary Gazette notification.
The order, made under the Holidays Act No. 29 of 1971, was signed by Minister Prof. A. H. M. H. Abayarathna and published in Gazette No. 2493/05.
According to the schedule, a total of national, religious, and cultural holidays have been declared for 2027, covering major Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Christian, and national observances.
Key public holidays include Tamil Thai Pongal Day on January 15, Independence Day on February 4, Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 14, May Day on May 1, Vesak on May 19, Christmas Day on December 25, and Deepawali on October 28.
Full moon Poya days will continue to be observed as both public and bank holidays throughout the year, in line with Sri Lanka’s longstanding tradition.
The government said that the holiday list has been prepared to ensure religious harmony and accommodate the country’s diverse cultural and religious communities.
