19 Indian fishermen arrested for poaching

Nineteen Indian fishermen were arrested and four trawlers taken into custody by the Navy attached to the North-Central Naval Command, navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.

He said the fishermen found poaching in the seas off the North of Mannar were handed over to officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Talaimannar for legal action.  

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy helped rescue five Indians and their fishing trawler which had hit some sand banks near the Katchchathivu Island.
They were handed over to Delft Police for further action. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
