150 Sri Lankan students to be repatriated from China within 48hrs

Steps had been taken to bring back 150 Sri Lankan students from Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China through a special flight within the next 48 hours, the President’s Media Division said.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had earlier directed authorities to take necessary steps to repatriate all Sri Lankan students in the Wuhan and Sichuan cities in China.

Accordingly, a special programme has been launched by the Presidential Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Relations, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing and SriLankan Airlines.

The Wuhan authorities have stopped all movements in and out of the city. It is interesting to how the Sri Lankans in Wuhan can be brought back in 48 hours. Who pays for this and who paid for them to go to Wuhan?

For the first time Sri Lanka is behaving like a major power in the international scene. I did not vote for Gotta but he is proving to be a great leader. Just imagine Ranil handling this crisis, all he could have done is to “beg the Western Countries to help us”. But Gotta did it our way.

Its China if an are is sealed its sealed. Let us wait and see how their quarantine perimeter is cleared. There is no harm for the students to be taken care of by the Chinese authorities. They sure have better facilities.
