Colombo, Jan. 24 (Daily Mirror) - Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara said that there are as many as 11,000 complaints regarding missing persons, and investigations into them will be completed within two years.
Making remarks to the press after a workshop, he said there are complaints about the lack of progress in investigations.
However, he said that the previous governments should be held responsible for it, but not the Office of Missing Persons (OMP). He said financial allocations had been made to train 375 officials attached to the OMP.
The Minister said that investigations into 5,000 complaints would be completed this year.
“We will investigate into disappearances both in the north and the south,” he said.
