Mathews returns from West Indies for birth of his child

Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Mathews will arrive back in Sri Lanka tonight from the West Indies for the birth of his second child.

Mathews who returned to the side after a lengthy injury lay-off featured in Sri Lanka 226-run defeat at the hands of hosts West Indies in the opening test in Port of Spain. He is a father of a one-year-old boy. 


Mathews scored 11, 31 in two innings. He will be replaced by Danushka Gunathilaka in the side. Also returning home with him is seamer Lahiru Gamage who had suffered a fractured figure while batting in the first test. 


Dasun Shanaka will replace him in the squad. Shanaka and Gunathilaka will leave tonight to the West Indies. The second test begins tomorrow in Gros Islet. However none of them will be available for the second Test starting tomorrow (June 14).Sri Lanka has Dhananjaya de Silva and Mahela Udawatte to replace Mathews in the side while Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando available to replace Gamage..(Champika)
