Govt aims to complete national digital land database this year

Colombo, June 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Government plans to complete a nationwide digital land information system within this year to improve land administration and speed up investment-related processes, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha said.

The Minister made these remarks during a special discussion held at the Govijana Mandir of the Ministry of Agriculture on the programme to bring all land information in Sri Lanka under a single digital network.

Officials said the new system is expected to make services such as issuing land deeds, granting land titles and identifying state lands for investment projects more efficient and accessible.

The discussion also focused on linking the proposed land database with existing government data systems and incorporating land mapping information maintained by the Survey Department.

During the meeting, the Ministry Secretary stressed the need to quickly identify government-owned lands that can be used for investment opportunities while ensuring benefits reach the public.

Minister Lalkantha instructed officials to complete the project before the end of the year and ensure that its benefits are delivered to the people.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry, several Additional Secretaries and representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
