Sri Lanka participates in UN public service forum 2026 in Georgia



June 25 (Daily Mirror) - The United Nations Public Service Forum and Awards Ceremony 2026 commenced on June 23 at the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia, under the theme “Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Accountability, Participation and Inclusion.”

Professor Chandana Abayaratne, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, is representing Sri Lanka at the three-day international summit, which concludes today (June 25).

The forum is co-organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, with the aim of promoting policy dialogue and joint action to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) globally.

Senior government officials, public administration experts, civil society representatives, and academics from around the world are participating in the event.

The Sri Lankan delegation is taking part in ministerial roundtables, parallel workshops, and the UN Public Service Awards Ceremony. During these sessions, Minister Professor Chandana Abayaratne will present Sri Lanka’s initiatives and future plans to digitalise public services, improve transparency and accountability in state institutions, and strengthen public participation at the local level.

The discussions will also focus on international cooperation and adapting modern public administration strategies to support Sri Lanka’s efforts towards achieving the SDGs.
