The home of Subramaniam Ramesh, the child hero who saved his 8 year old neighbor from drowning, embodied the desperate struggle for survival faced by many Sri Lankans as they suffer without the basic necessities of water, food, shelter, sanitation, healthcare and education.

Why is this news so negative. As far as we know almost all the Sri Lanka are happy, peaceful and wealthy.

oh c'mon! DM has done a great job in highlighting this! without forever passing judgement online, why don't you people try and do something for these poor people.
In every country no matter how developed they are, there is poverty! This is not only Sri Lanka...Grow up people!!!

    Nadija Sunday, 20 March 2011 10:19 AM

    Now you know...

Well done DM journalists. This type of news is what we need to bring to the attention of the political crooks of this country and reveal their skulduggery world over. How about we send this clip to Bell Pottinger - our nefarious PR firm? This clip should be aired by BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, CBC, AFP and other media world over to show the plight of our own citizens. "Miracle" in need!

Most of them are not happy but have enough food and shelter for the survival...but we are talking about this side of SL is difficult

    Nahusha Monday, 21 March 2011 05:24 AM

I quite agree with Ranil. there are so many sri lankans who are willing to help such village communities. DM could you let us know the exact location of this family in order to provide the necessary assistance.

This is called the developing process according to Mahinda cause it's gonna be 2yrs since the war is over, but still the cost of living is difficult for such people to survive.

here is a man from president's nner circle speaking. oh yes, if you have no rice, eat cakes.

    david Monday, 21 March 2011 02:33 PM

Let us know how we can help these people. Can DM take the leadership on this project. I sure lot of Srilankans will join hands to help the needy children in Srilanka.

DM can open a bank account with a website to show the money spent for. If you want I can create a website for free of charge,

    Time to help these people.

    A.Perera Monday, 21 March 2011 04:13 PM

Yes, there are so many poor out there in Sri Lanka. Let's help these people but somebody has to take the responsibility of book keeping, controlling etc.. Creating a website is not enough.
