Continuously setting the benchmark in the fashion industry, Hameedia, Sri Lanka’s leading menswear brand, recently hosted a  World Children’s Day Celebration Programme at the Bishops College Auditorium. Present at the event was Fouzul Hameed – Managing Director, Hameedia and Founder and Chairman of the ‘My Friend’ Project, Angelo Mathews – Sri Lanka Cricket Captain, Kishu Gomes – Managing Director/CEO, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Nayana Karunaratne – Salon Nayana, Santhush Weeraman – Singer/Composer, 650 children and teachers from participating schools, and senior management of Hameedia and staff.

The World Children’s Day Celebration Programme targeted school children sitting their O/Levels and was aimed at uplifting the standard of under-privileged children and assisting them by developing life and personality skills. The Programme included an array of motivational speeches by Kishu Gomes, Nayana Karunaratne and Santhush Weeraman, and performances from the Mithsevana Home for Differently Abled Children. In addition to the motivational speech, Santhush Weeraman also performed two songs for the children. Hameedia also provided the 650 students with Rs. 1000/- vouchers to purchase school shoes. The children also received certificates of participation.

Commenting on the event Fouzul Hameed – Managing Director, Hameedia and Founder and Chairman of the ‘My Friend’ Project stated “Children’s Day is an important hallmark day around the world. This day draws attention to children, the future leaders. The World Children’s Day Celebration Programme was aimed at providing children with the motivation and advice to become future leaders of our country.  The ‘My Friend’ project remains committed to ensuring that underprivileged children throughout the country complete their education and enjoy a bright and prosperous future. To have any chance of enjoying success in life, these children need a decent education. We aim to facilitate this by providing them with basic needs, including school supplies and daily nourishment.”

The ‘My Friend’ project is an ongoing initiative that supports the educational needs of underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. The project is the brainchild of Fouzul Hameed, the Managing Director of the Hameedia Group and Sri Lanka’s premier menswear consultant who, years ago embarked on a mission to improve the lives of children in need across the country. Since its inception, the ‘My Friend’ project has funded thousands of less-fortunate school children, helping them overcome poverty and difficult circumstances. The support that the project gives these children enables them to remain in school and improve their future prospects. Regardless of caste, creed or religion, the ‘My Friend’ project sponsors and supports children by providing them with financial aid as well as school equipment and various educational materials. The continued educational support that the project offers these children plays a pivotal role in preventing the common eventuality of school dropouts.
