Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando has instructed Secretary of his Ministry R. W. R. Premasiri to look into the possibility of filing legal action against contractors who delay the commencement of projects.
A statement from the ministry said some of the contractors who had undertaken road development projects were yet to begin work.
Minister Fernando said he had received many complaints about the contractors who were yet to commence work on the projects they had undertaken.
“This is going to cause heavy loss to the government,” a statement from the Minister was quoted.
The Minister had decided to initiate action to make sure that the government’s policy of renovating 100,000 kilometres of roads became a reality.
