The Government had decided to renovate 15 tanks in all five Districts in the Northern Province, officials said.
The decision was taken during a discussion held under the aegis of the Northern Province Governor Suren Raghavan at his office in Jaffna.
It was decided to renovate at least three tanks in a District.
The cost of the project has been estimated to be Rs. 11.65 mn and the funds would be allocated by the Finance and National Policies, Rehabilitation and Resettlement and Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministries.
The tanks will be dredged and handed over to the farmers of the respective areas.
Government Officials from the Mullaithivu, Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts and representatives of farmer organisations from all five districts participated in the discussion.
