What happens to the confiscated gold, turmeric, murdered leopards etc? Who profits from this? Also, we bring in gold from India rather than vice versa - duh?

The article is missing lots of key details! On what grounds was the arrest itself? It is not illegal to own or transport gold within the country. Did the arrest happen on a tip-off.

Like drugs reissued by corrupt drug squad, I bet the conifscated gold also ends up back in the criminals hand via corrupt officials. Who is keeping records, who is keeping account of what happens to the confiscated, or indeed if the accountants themselves have been bribed to generate false reports, it is anybody's guess. This is Sri Lanka, don't forget, the Land of the Tricksters.
