The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) working committee meeting, which was held this evening, ended with no agreement on the symbol that will be used if they were to support the SLPP presidential candidate, SLFP Spokesperson MP Weerakumara Dissanayake said.
The Executive Committee and the National Working Committee of the SLFP chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena, convened today to make a final decision on the common symbol if they were to back the SLPP candidate.
MP Dissanayake told Daily Mirror that the final decision on the matter would be discussed at a special working committee to be held on October 5.
Officials of both parties have stated that an agreement has been reached for the upcoming elections, but SLFP remains hesitant to back an SLPP candidate contesting under the “Pohottuwa” symbol. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Agree on a symbol that represents total failure. A used bus ticket or a pair of cracked spectacles?

SLFP is dying. CBK is responsible for that. What politicians want is to earn money within their tenure in power by corruption. If SLFPers want to do that they have to support the corrupt gang of SLPP which is definitely coming to power in forthcoming elections. Sri Lankans have no alternative. They have to vote for some gang. The gang is SLPP who get for example, 100 million loan and spend 60 million for the people and playout 40 million. UNP is worse. So the choice is SLPP. If SLFP does not want Pohottuwa they can field their own candidate or support UNP.

Those who are not confident cannot give leadership to this country. As it is Sajith is streets ahead. Others are in troubled waters striving to cling on to a straw.

How would the SLFP think that those who support SLFP are going to vote for SLPP? All these voters voted against Mahinda last time. Goong with SLPP is further decreases the SLFP votes. This can be good for UNP.

SLFP was a strong party before the change of it's leader but now has become weakest party in the political areana. Membership has started drifting to other parties

Think about the country, not the symbol.
