Navy Spokesman Captain Indika De Silva said a leakage of diesel was spotted this evening around one kilometer away from the crude oil tanker MT New Diamond in the East Coast of Sri Lanka.
He said it was believed that the sea water used continuously by the disaster teams to douse the fire may have accumulated in the rear side of the tanker and in engine rooms. He said this may have tilted the Tanker backwards causing the diesel stored in the tanker to mix with sea water. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
