The Wild Elephant Management Unit in Kantale said that a white baby Sambhur had been found close to the 9 km post on the Ella-Kantale Road inside the Somawathiya Forest Reserve on Saturday (2).
This baby Sambhur, which had had found itself alone away from its mother, was spotted by a Civil Security Force guard and was rescued by the unit. It was thought to be about one month old and was healthy.
In the meantime, an officer of the Wild Elephant Management Unit in Kantale said that arrangements would be made to hand the animal over to the Wildlife office in Giritale.
