JVP MP Sunil Handunnetti was yesterday unanimously elected as the Chairman of the newly constituted parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).
MPs Sriyani Wijewickrama, Wijedasa Rajapakse, D.V. Chanaka, Ranjan Ramanayake were among the others who attended yesterday’s COPE meeting.
Mr Handunetti told journalists that his name was proposed by UNP MP Ajith P Perera and was seconded by MP Asok Abeysinghe.
Meanwhile, Government MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna was unanimously re-appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA).
Mr. Alagiyawanna’s name was proposed by MP Udaya Gammanpila and was seconded by MP Chandima Weerakkody. He was the COPA chairman prior to the prorogation of Parliament on the December 2, 2019.
Ministers Pavithradevi Wanniarachchi, Duminda Dissanayake and MPs Chandima Weerakkody, Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila, Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana, (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa and Wijepala Hettiarachchi attended the committee meeting held at parliament.
