Following NBRO Report CP Governor says collapsed building not upto standard

The Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage said that the construction of the building, which collapsed recently in Kandy killing a family had not been up to the required standard.   

The Governor said a 21 page report pertaining to the standard of the building which recently collapsed in  Buwalikada, Kandy had been handed over to him by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) yesterday. According to the report, several aspects of construction in the building were found to substandard.


Since the standard of the building was questionable, the NBRO had obtained samples of materials from the ruins of the building including wires and concrete for further testing . The report thus obtained had proved that there were issues relating to the standard of the building, he added.


He also said that a comprehensive report would be produced in the near future after testing all the areas of the five-storey building.
