Former minister Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday said he is ready to take over the leadership of the UNP if the party members want him to.
Mr. Ranatunga said this at a party office in Mahara yesterday.
“A question was asked at the working committee meeting as to who would like to take over the leadership. Few volunteered and my name was also proposed. I am, therefore, willing to take over the leadership,” Mr. Ranatunga said.
“However, I am not willing to hunt for positions of the party and is willing to accept any good decision made by the party for its betterment,” he said at the same time.
“I am not a rich man but not a person who go after rich people to get assistance for the party but I am able to revive it on behalf of the UNPers in the rural villages who are saddened about the defeat it suffered recently,” he also said.
