A group of Sri Lanka Thawheed Jama'ath (SLTJ) Organisation members today staged a protest march in Maligawatta, Maradana against the move to amend the Muslim Marriage Act as a requirement to regain GSP+ from the European Union. The protestors said as long as other customary laws such as Thesawalamai and Kandyan laws remained unchanged, Muslim law should also not be altered. Some of the placards said that setting up of a minimum age for marriage was not practical. Pix by Pradeep Dilrukshana
DISGUSTED SENIOR MUSLIM Friday, 04 November 2016 10:57 AM
These so called SLTJ heretics are the main culprits to cause the rift between the majority sinhalese and the muslims of this country who were peacefully living all over Sri Lanka among all communities. These fellows are funded by the Saudi to spread there dogma of Wahhabism it is being done by thee saudis not only in Sri Lanka but all over the world. SLTJ had even succeeded by creating splits between the family members, now children are celebrating festivals on different days than their parents one good example. After the dogma was allowed to flourish the unity among the muslims too had vanished every one is divided to various factions. May the Almighty guide everyone on the right path not on paths of the recent day heretic preachers they only will hasten the downfall of the entire community, it must be nipped in the bud.

Their problem is that Prophet Mohamed is supposed to have married a girl even below 11 years old. I fully agree that there should be only one law for all Sri Lankans. This Muslim Law, Thesawalama law, upcountry law etc was started by British for their convenience in governing. We like fools have kept it going after gaining independence. and even continued registering in Birth Certificates as Sinhalese, Tamil etc. At least now we need to correct all these major blunders by the new constitution.

see the pictures that old en are rejecting minimum age.minimum age is required for protection of childrans rights and to protect from old men. even in the Muslim countries like turkey , Iran , indonitia the sharia law has confined only to very personal nature things of individuals and their families and it is not a part of state law.

Personal laws of whatever community should be reviewed and any draconian or archaic laws which are not suited for modern times and is detrimental to human rights should be amended or eliminated. This should not be merely to placate vested foreign interests.

We can't have different law to different religious group. People who oppose go to Saudi Arabia.

This cancerous SLTJ is appeasing to illeterate Muslims to gain popularity votes as this group wants to enter politics. The Muslims of Sri Lanka do not need this SLTJ and therefore it should be banned henceforth. Islam forbid this kind of protest march and disturbing the peaceful environment worse is that the women is also dragged in to the march. This is not allowed in Islam in the first place so SLTAJ has no right to talk of Sharea while they violate the Sharia by indulging in Unislamic activities.
