Access Engineering PLC yesterday announced the appointment of Shamal Joseph Shavindra Perera to its board, as a Non-Executive Director, with immediate effect.
Perera, who holds 50,811,814 ordinary shares of Access Engineering—which accounts for 5 percent of the issued shares of the company—is the son of Access Group of Companies Founder and Chairman Sumal Perera.
Shamal Perera currently serves as a Director in a number of boards of the Access group companies, including Access International (Pvt.) Ltd, Civimech (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Industrial Systems, Axionent (Pvt.) Ltd, Reprographics (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Properties (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Lifestyle (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Medical (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Real Estate (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Transport and Services (Pvt.) Ltd, Access Residencies (Pvt.) Ltd and Ninewells (Pvt.) Ltd.
Perera holds an MBA from the University of Buckingham and a CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. Perera joined Access International (Pvt.) Ltd in 2009, as a Director at Access Healthcare, where he played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of the business, leading the entity to become a well-reputed and respected supplier in the industry.
Following this success, he was appointed to the director board of Access International (Pvt.) Ltd, in 2014.
In 2015, Access International proceeded to expand its healthcare services by acquiring Ninewells Hospital, where Perera was appointed to the board and was tasked with the responsibility of restructuring the company.
