The most venerable Mahanayakes of the Malwaththe and Asgiriya chapters in a statement to the Ministry of higher education today said that the government has to take urgent measures to solve the impending deadlock between the Ministry of Higher education and University lecturers.

“We are aggrieved at the current predicament faced by the students of this country who are the torchbearers of the country’s future. It is indeed very disheartening to note that despite the passage of over three months to the crisis the education ministry has failed to address this issue and put forward a sustainable solution” the statement said. Do you know how much of the GDP is spent on defence ministry?
Do you know how much money and resources are spent on a Minister and his/her staff?
Do you know how much money is wasted on foriegn tours?
Do you know how much money is lost due to corruption?

Please do get the facts straight before you make emotional arguments.

What do these skin heads know about education???

The Regime consisting of 4 bros and 300 Govt. employed
relatives will give into the FUTA demands as a way out
with a hidden agenda that will ruin Education for the
benefit of upholding a Dictatorship - which is the Regimes
goal. No Mahanayakes 2 cents worth of advice will fall
    in the Regimes ears.

The govt. and the union both have to compromise . the demand of 6 percent of national income is too much of demand at once It has to be debated in the parliament. International communities are crying to invest more in the north. The government has to balance. It need time.

    P.G.Wijeratna Friday, 28 September 2012 05:01 PM

If mahanayake theros reqested both parties to come to compromise the request would have been fair.

Only way the corrut, lawless Banana Republic could surview is to turn the future generations into uneducated buffalows. They are slowly but surely at it now. They will stop at nothing until the entire public Education system is ruined. The corrupt politicians will send their children to International Schools or abroad for their studies. Unless the corrupt Regime is thrown out and we save our former democratic Sri Lanka, we will slowly but surely loose our mother Lanka.

The GoSL hasn't even put forward a sustainable political solution since the end of the war in May 2009. So I doubt GoSL has any interest is solving the higher education crisis. And as others have said, its younger generation thats going to suffer.

    kingasanga Friday, 28 September 2012 11:37 AM

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 28 September 2012 10:07 AM

With all due respects to the Venerable Maha Nayakes: By now everyone knows that the Ministers in charge of Education are so arrogant that they are not interested in solving nthis crisis - and neither is the President becaause he needs these Ministers to support him. Ultimately, it is the young generation who will suffer but then who cares, because the off springs of the Ministers are all studying in overseas universities and the local hoi polloi are required only to cast their votes for them.

Rahul Raj Friday, 28 September 2012 09:41 AM

    Mikee Friday, 28 September 2012 09:01 AM

The government could have stopped all these problems if they had entrusted the matter to Dr. Mervyn Silva who is ever willing to address the issue.

    waz Friday, 28 September 2012 09:01 AM

We have to wait for that. I do not know how long!

    Thomas Friday, 28 September 2012 08:30 AM
