Tamil women forced to marry SL soldiers-Karunanidhi

Alleging that Tamil women in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts in northern Sri Lanka were being forced to marry Sri Lankan Army personnel, DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Monday asked the Union government to ascertain the facts and take it up with the neighbouring country.

In a statement, Mr. Karunanidhi said students of Jaffna University were arrested and tortured in prison by the Army for observing “heroes’ day” recently.

“The mere mention of the name Yazh (short for Yazhppanam or Jaffna) provokes the Sinhalese. Tamil scholars were attacked in the Jaffna World Tamil Conference and the Jaffna University library was burnt down,” he said and wanted India’s intervention to stop the incidents. (The Hindu)

Jacoob, I agree with Calistus J. Tamils were never suffered in this country like they do now (during the war and post war). The sole reason was VP. There were troubles in the past I dont deny it but never to this extent. LTTE had golden opotunities during R Premdasa's era and then during CBK time for a fair settlement. But the greedy VP wanted the whole cake. Every Tamil should curse Prabakaran in my view.

If actually the Sinhala soldiers are marrying Tamil women, it should be celebrated as a giant step towards racial integration and eliminating the so called discrimination. As to Jaffna students celebrating a "hero's day", there is no such "hero" any more because in any case, Prabahakaran was one of the worst cowards who betrayed the Tamils in the North and East.
