Sri Lanka held their nerve to claim a thrilling five-run super-over win against New Zealand in the first Super Eight match of the World Twenty20.

With New Zealand needing 14 from their one over to win, Sri Lanka pace bowler Lasith Malinga conceded only eight.

Earlier, both sides had been level after 20 overs, New Zealand on 174-7, Sri Lanka making 174-6. The hosts needed one from the final ball, but Lahiru Thirimanne was run out to force the super over decider. (BBC)

Congratulation for the victory. but my disapointments why Chandimal did not play. He is fa better player than L Thirimane who is not a 20/20 player.

very poor performance by sangakkara behind the wickets.
he was never a good wicket keeper.
people around him only praise him but never advice him

Thanks Dilly.You are a great hero yesterday.However,Match should have been finished one over to go had malinga fielded well and Mathews scored faster than he did.Poor all rounder who does not go for big shots.12 in 11 balls is not good for an all rounder and VC of the side.LM cannot throw from the 30 yard cicle to the wicket.Gave two stupit overthrows.Throw went thre yards wider than the keeper.Next over , gave a boundary to kiwis by letting the ball thro his hands.he saved his face by bowling the Supper over.
Both AM and LM are key assets of the side but have depreciated before their time.

Well done TM Dilshan...Initially he provided the quick start that SL required in the chase with Mahela. Then after Mahela got out, he changed gears and focused on batting throughout 20 overs to bring SL victory. In the 19th over, he provded the required 6. Unfortunately he was run out next ball & couldn't finish the game for SL. However in the super over, it was not a catch coming towards him, but the victory of SL & he held it superbly.
