An indictment was served today at the Colombo High Court on former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka and his personal assistant Senaka Haripriya de Silva for committing mutiny and insubordination to the government and for harbouring army deserters. The accused pleaded not guilty for the charges.

At the onset of the case the Interpreter Mudlier of High Court S.A.M. Nafli read over the indictments to the accused and following the reading the charges the two accused pleaded not guilty to the 41 charges in the indictment.

Senior State Counsel Damith Totawatte appearing for the prosecution moved court to make amendments to the charges and amended several averments to the indictment.

Senior Counsel Upul Jayasuriya appearing for the second accused Senaka Haripriya De Silva submitted that he wanted to raise certain objections to amending the charges.

Thus the court ordered the defence counsel to make such objections on the next date of the case. (T. Farook Thajudeen)

All cooked up charges but the moot point is if they can expect any real justice under the current setup.

In this country murders and crooks are allowed to roam freely but a war-hero is hounded, humiliated and jailed.
