Railway trade unions called off their strike after discussions with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama and Secretary Dhammika Perera this afternoon.

A union spokesman said the union alliance had informed the government that if its demands were not met in two weeks time they would resort to a further trade union action.

The Railways Professional Trade Union Alliance (RPTUA) launched a 48-hour railway strike from midnight on Sunday over salary anomalies.

The salaries should be raised so that a family can afford the basics needs, pay for transport, the electricity and water bills at least! It should be raised for all workers and not only for the transport sector.

If a trade union resort "Trade Union Action",naturally, general public will get harassed . Other wise what is the purpose of doing an action? Well done RPTUA.
