Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (PBOA) today requested the National Transport Commission (NTC) to increase bus fares by 15 percent.

They have also requested for the minimum bus fare to be raised from Rs.6 to Rs.8. The PBOA Chairman, Gemunu Wijeratne said that it was vital to increase bus fares owing to the increase in diesel prices last month.

“Bus owners may incur heavy losses if they do not implement a significant increase in bus fares.  We hope the NTC will agree to our request,” Wijeratne said. (OJ)

Now is the time for all so called patriots and Chinthanites to resolve to walk instead of going in buses, that is if they still have the strength to walk with so many food items too going up in price. Jaya Wewa and Suba Anagathayak.

He is not talking anything about better service, over crowd, not issueing tickets ect...

Fair increase has to be better service.

Gemunu! if Rs.6 minimum fare is increased to Rs. 8 , its 33.33% increase.. which is in contrast to 15% increase requested by PBOA. Rs. 7.00 would be the fare rate.

    Math Wednesday, 04 May 2011 08:08 AM

15% of 6 is only 0.9. So minimum fare should not exceed 7 buks
