Paddy stocks removed from Mattala

The process of removing more than 4000 MT of paddy stored in Mattala International Airport began today.

Minister of Social Services, Welfare and Livestock Development, P. Harrison monitored the process and initially 595,000 kg of paddy have been removed.

The Minister said the process in other stores would begin in the coming days. (Sanath Gamage)

It was good decision at least to store paddy in this idling warehouse built at public expense and located far away from terminal. When opened about 3 years ago Economist from UoC had said $ 210 mn cost will be recovered in 10 years and said it is a priority project! In addition the road from airport to sea port 25 km had costed $ 412 mn China loan. Can we ever recover these costs who will pay them?
