President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Police Chief not to institute any action against the parliamentarians and local politicians who had allegedly made defaming statements about him.
“This is in reference to a news item published in the newspapers about investigations being carried out by the CID to take the legal action against these politicians,” the presidential office said in a statement quoting the President,
The President has also said that as a matured politician he would ignore these defamatory statements and instead would request the IGP to take action against those who insulted and threw mud at ordinary people, public servants and entrepreneurs so that they could perform their duties without any hindrance.

OK, thank you president. Now let's start. President in 2005 said, he would launch a programme to create 10,000 graduate jobs every year, but where is the programme? Those graduates are still looking for jobs. This is taking mickey out of young intelligent people. Then he also said, poverty has been around for a long time and now we have to annihilate it, but where is the programme to do that? Poor people are struggling to find a square meal a day. These are insults to the ordinary people. So IGP, take action, will you?
Jeevan Friday, 24 August 2012 04:15 PM

Aren't they already? Not once but twice, who knows forever as well, until the patriotic card is there..
Sumana Dissanayake Friday, 24 August 2012 05:26 PM
If so you should start it from CBK and Ranil because they NEVER keep up to given promises. MR is the ONLY leader who is keeping the election Manifesto while following one-by-one without throwing away after the election. Poverty alleviation is in the process those will be happen gradually. Can you just talk this type of story in front of Premadasa if he is live?
Supun Perera Friday, 24 August 2012 05:45 PM
Did he honour any of the Election promises he made? How can we believe this? I dont think any body could believe some one

Will those people who are monitoring the media on behalf of the President tell his Excellency that his popularity had gone 8 - 33 according to the first comment. Means most citizen are suffering under him except those who are around him.

"I don't want CID to interfere our own justice system run by Gota. He will send a white van to resolve the issue amicably" said Mahinda.
Bandara Saturday, 25 August 2012 01:26 AM
Except one. JR's 1977 constitution positioned Executive President above the law which no President changed. Actually MR is above the law.
Ranjith Saturday, 25 August 2012 01:51 AM
Are you talking about the law practice elsewhere??

Dammika Saturday, 25 August 2012 04:47 AM
So this means he has instructed previously take action against the people defaming him .... simple as that ... white van cases
Andrew Pitugala Saturday, 25 August 2012 05:14 AM
Has he instructed the White Vans too. Most of what have been termed "Defaming" are in fact appear to be true, which cannot be contested in an independent Court of Law.
Manik Sunday, 26 August 2012 11:18 AM
This is not the first time this is happening. Even during other leaders' times too nobody bothered about what was being said about them. In this instance he is trying to get votes at the forthcoming election by showing his magnanimity.
Sam Saturday, 25 August 2012 05:00 AM
MR is all talk and no action. He should ask the IGP take action against those who steal, murder, sell drugs, indulge in corruption under his name before talking about defamation. He surely knows how to mollycoddle the populace.
You can't fool all the people all the time.
