A number of stray dogs painted with English letters S and B roamed the precincts of Ruhunu University as well as the Wellamadama Area when Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayaka went to open a new building at the University, sources said.

They said that in view of the visit of the minister, security had been tightened in the area throughout the day, with hundreds of officers in civvies deployed to prevent any student unrest.

However, as a show of protest, a group of students seemed to have resorted to alternative methods by sending stray dogs painted S and B, the initials of the Higher Education Minister.

The efforts by the Police to control the new form of protest did not have any effect and the dogs were seen roaming the Wellamadama Area, sources added.
The university students have been recently at loggerheads with Minister Dissanayake over many issues.  (Krishan Jeevaka Jeyaruk-Matara)

Putting a leader's name on dogs is not a good thing for the image of the students. They must respect leaders.
