More rain today and tomorrow

More rainy weather is expected in the North, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces during this evening and tomorrow morning the Meteorological Department told Daily Mirror online.

However the adverse weather experienced island wide is expected to decrease during the coming days while the monsoon affects will also be weakened during the next couple of weeks, the Met. Department said.  

Meanwhile the number of deaths due to floods and heavy rain in several Districts has arisen to 37, 18 of them being reported from the Batticaloa District, the Disaster Management Center said.

Continuous operations are underway using Armed forces personnel and other government institutions for flood relief measures.  India has already sent a consignment of flood aid while several other countries including the EU and the US, which has promised flood assistance for the people in distress.  (Daily Mirror online)
