Four suspects, including an engineer allegedly involved in defrauding Rs. 7 millions from the private banks using fake credit cards, were taken into custody by the CID and produced before the Chief Magistrate of Mount Lavinia Nirosha Fernando and were subsequently remanded till May 13.
The remanded engineer Nadarajah Sahindan and Thambipillai Sedaran were residents of Trincomalee while the other two suspects Sulthan Marickar Husein and M.M. Ajmal Khan are residents of Beruwala and Rathnalana.respectively.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had printed fake credit cards in India to suit the credit cards issued by the local banks using the particulars of the genuine credit card holders’, obtained through the employees of the filling stations.
The Magistrate issued an order to the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to suspend the passport of another suspect who was taken into custody having recently returned to the country from Canada. (Ananda Weerasooriya)
