The Colombo Crimes Division today informed Court it had sought the Attorney General’s advice on whether Colombo’s former Deputy Mayor Azath Sally should be arrested as a suspect in a case involving criminal breach of trust. The CCD asked Court that the preventing order on Mr. Sally be revoked as the AG’s advice on the case had still not been received.
In the wake of the AG’s advice pending, Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne revoked the order preventing Mr. Sally from leaving the country.
On August 15, Magistrate Jayaratne had directed the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to prevent former Deputy Mayor Azath Sally and a female suspect from leaving the country.
A Health Ministry labourer had in a complaint to the CCD alleged that Mr. Sally in the presence of the other suspect Fathima Riyana had obtained Rs.600,000 on the promise of getting him a promotion.
The labourer told the CCD that Ms. Riyana had introduced him to Mr. Sally and that the suspects had not made good their promise nor did they return the money obtained from him.
The case was put off for September 2.
