Thunmulla Junction, Kanattha roundabout (Borella), Maligawatta Road, Armour Street, Bullers Road, Kirulapone (High Level Road) and Ayurveda Junction were flooded due to the prevailing heavy showers, the Police Emergency Unit said. (SD)

We need to study the pattern of floods and plan for a long term solution - keeping in mind an undergrond metro/subway for the colombo city. Also diverting flood water to beira lake too will ease the problem,later the lake could be made as a source of income for the gov-transport and tourism.
But we need patriot ministers with practical thinking and brains as how to start and complete it with available resourses. GOSL should put horses for the courses!

We experience thse floods every now and then. If one notices the size of their drainage system, it must be 05 times bigger than what we have dude. So the flow to Indian Ocean is more rapid than in reclaimed Singapore. It could have been fun had the floods lashed the parliament during a parliament session. All sins would have got washed offed

yes Singapore also had floods in its central shopping district Orchird, middle of this year. so you cant compare Singapore they also have there flaws.

the rain storm water system is completely out. the administrator needs to re-lay at the cost of the tax payer similar to one in Singapore. It is so disgusting even to note the surronding of beira lake flooded. A basic IQ will do to send the water to beira lake in seconds. But we have arm chair admins and engineers. Very soon Bamba to Kollupitiya will go under water.

yes. they did have very bad floods about 20 decades ago. But their vision and plan helped them to solve the problem. But nothing can beat mother nature, still they get quick flash floods in few part of the country.
