Responding to President Maithripala Sirisena’s statement made at the 76th commemoration of the late Ven. Sobitha Thera, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday the statement showed that there is no government in the country today.
He expressed these views to journalists at an Iftar ceremony held at his residence in Colombo last evening.
Mr. Rajapaksa said continuous speeches made by both the President and the Prime Minister validated that the only solution available to the current issues is the dissolution of Parliament.
“The country cannot be developed or taken forward in this manner. The Parliament should be dissolved and a general election should be held to establish a stable government,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

Agree with you Fomer president. They should call for an election but with minimal cost. Public is already been burdened by stupid policies which has drastically impacted the cost of living to go up.The reality is an election won’t be called due to power and wealth hunger.. none of them give a damn to the suffering general public by any means.. it’s sad.

Once this country had a strong government with a well managed defence and also the country had a decent Cricket team which performed. Also the economy growth was steady. But we did a mistake by just trying take the revenge from one family. Now we all are screwed.. Sad reality...

You politically abuse even an "Iftar" ceremony to sling mud at the government. Iftar ceremonies must be used to build communal harmony that you and your family ruined during your time.

Man under whose regime Muslims were harresd in Aluthgama is now attending Iftar ceremonies. What a joke to gain power to safeguard the family.

There may or may not be govt. but the type of government you were running with white vans, murder of journalists and one family plundering the wealth of poor people is million times worse than present government.

You had your time to rule. We know the good you did and the bad you did too. Now shut up and keep quiet.
