Trade Unions attached to Colombo Port today launched a strike with immediate effect over an issue with the Eastern Container Terminal of the Port.
According to their claims, the developments of the Eastern Container Terminal of the Colombo Port is on hold due to conflicts in agreements with India.
President of the Port Trade Union Prasanna Kalutharage said due to a foreign deal which is still on hold, three cranes have been left stranded causing the Sri Lankan Government a daily loss of USD 60,000.
“We will not resume work unless they start the halted constructions of the terminal,” Kalutharage said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that a final decision had not yet been taken to give the Eastern Container Terminal to India. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
