Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into minor earth tremors reported from time to time around the Victoria Reservoir in Kandy, Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Anura Walpola said.
He said although four minor tremors were reported around Kandy on Sunday only one minor tremor was reported from the interior of the earth. Sensors mounted on the Victoria Reservoir dam do not record earthquakes.
The Chairman said that the other three tremors were not reported from the interior of the earth. According to Victoria Reservoir sensors. 'Therefore, the tremors may not have occurred internally, but it should be happened exterior of the earth," he said.
"However, the facts regarding this are not taken lightly and an extensive investigation is being carried out using experts from various fields regarding these occasional tremors," Mr Walpola said.
The University of Peradeniya, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, as well as the Mahaweli Authority are to be consulted for this purpose on the instructions of the Minister of Environment.
He said the report of the panel of experts would focus on dolomite mining and related explosions and would take further action in line with the report.

This is nature, so don't you or any one on earth try to ---- with it. Geology or any other logy won't help. What has will happen, that's nature.

I checked all real-time earthquake maps and found no earthquakes recorded near Kandy. Any earthquake near Kandy is manmade on the surface and not at depth. Try seiesmo.berkley.edu if interested. Berkley is a University of California campus.

May be Berkeley seismo works in a network and unless our department or university feeds the information it cannot show up on their map. Without that I don’t think a 2.0 Richter can be picked up even in other Asian countries. Berkeley is on the other side of the planet. Seismic waves get refracted resulting in seismic shadow on a cone on the opposite side of the earth.
