A straw thatched hut built at the dancing zone of the Hambantota Resort and Spa owned by Shangri-La’s Five Star Hotel Company caught fire during a firework event after it was opened by President Maithripala Sirisena today.
President Sirisena was also viewing the event at the time of the incident.
The authorities said no one was injured in the incident.(Sanath Gamage)

I was there at that time. Have to say the team from the hotel managed the situation nicely. After that the event went off well.. Wish them all the best for the newly opened hotel and can't wait to see their sister property in Colombo.

Seems a good place for a straw roof bar-B-Que. Wasn't any other city other than Hambantota and Colombo good enough for Shangri-La?
