COVID-19 vaccination trials will get underway from tomorrow (23) at Piliyandala Divisional Hospital, Ragama Teaching Hospital and the Piliyandala MOH Office, the Health Ministry said.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services (DDGHS) Dr. Hemantha Herath said that all arrangements were made at the respective locations today and preparations have been completed to start the trails tomorrow.

“This will help us to get an idea as to how vaccination should be administered and also to identify the discrepancies and shortcomings in the process. This will also give us the idea to determine the number of vaccines that could be given to the recipients within an hour or a day,” he said.

He said the Health Ministry is geared up to start the vaccination programme in the country and to distribute the vaccines to the respective locations whenever the vaccine is in hand.

The Ministry has also decided to first vaccinate the health officials and frontline workers on a priority basis. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

In Britain ordinary people are being trained to administer the covid- 19 vaccine to hundreds of people on a daily basis. I am pretty certain in the third world countries the doctors would be exclusively in charge of injecting the vaccine.
