SJB Leader to start special mobile service for women soon

• We are only able to launch limited programmes for women when we are in the Opposition

Leader of Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said he will start up a special mobile service for women soon.   Speaking during a programme organised by the women’s wing of SJB to mark international women’s day Mr. Premadasa said the women’s mobile service will be implemented parallel to the Opposition Leader’s Mobile service which is being implemented currently by him.  

“We are only able to launch limited programmes for women when we are in the Opposition. However we pledge to set up a special task force to develop women and a special commission to deal with women’s rights when we come to power. We will also introduce tough laws to prevent harassment of women and girls the day we form a Government,” he said.   

“We will also start up a programme to empower women who are affected with new poverty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Research has revealed that around 23 percent of the households are led by women in Sri Lanka.,” he also said.
