The PCR test on the dead monkey (Macaca Sinica)  protected under the Fauna and Flora Act has not been completed, said the Pathologist of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Kavinda Wijesundera.

This monkey had been sent by the Kandy Municipality after being found at Udawattekelle.

Pathologist Dr. Kavindra Wijesundera said earlier that the PCR tests would be carried out on Monday, but there seems to be a delay as they want to satisfy themselves on the disease or the cause of death of the monkey.
Environmental Lawyer Shanta Ratnayake PC said that in the past a number of monkeys who are protected under the law had been captured and released to cultivated areas.

He also said that according to information he has, there are a number of dead monkeys.
