The students who obtained the first and second places and the island ranks during the recently announced 2020 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) examination results will not be published this year, the Examination Commissioner General Sanath B. Pujitha said.
Addressing the media he said the publishing of the best student grading methodology has been suspended following a decision taken in 2019 on the recommendation of an expert psychological counselling council.
Accordingly, the recent A/L examination results will be considered only as a performance test but not for grading or announcing island ranks, he said.
“District and all-island ranks will only come to play during university admissions. The decision was taken due to the intense competition that currently exists and that will directly affect the mentality of the students who were selected or not to enter universities,” Mr. Pujitha said. Re-scrutiny of results will be done after the reopening of schools through an online system for both school and private applicants, he said.
The re-scrutiny of results will be announced through newspapers and other media advertisements in the future, he added.
