With the seizure of over 900kg of Beedi leaves last Sunday from Mannar, the Navy had seized over 14 tonnes of Beedi leaves during raids conducted this year.
A group of officers attached to the North Central Naval Command recovered 946.8kg of Beedi leaves in 30 parcels stored in a house at Tharapuram in Mannar last Sunday. It also found a cart used to transport Beedi leaves to the house from the shore.
More than 3,000kg of Beedi leaves which were attempted to be smuggled in to the island have been apprehended together with several individuals during raids conducted by the Navy in the month of June.
